Menopause

Hello, So how have you all been? It’s been a long time since I posted but I’m back and will be getting regular posts up. Yesterday was world Vegan day I have been vegan for 10 years in April ( wow)! Today I want to talk about the menopause briefly… yes guys, men and women can read this as it affects us all and if men understand they can be more supportive. Interestingly men on treatment for prostate problems can suffer with flushes and night sweats too… it’s all about the hormones!  I was asked why I don’t sufffer with many menopause symptoms and it is because of my vegan diet. Sadly it doesn’t help the brain fog but that’s a working progress.  The North American Menopause society posted a journal,  last year, showing evidence of up to an 84% drop in Menopausal symptoms.  I am going to be putting short course packages together to help you with transitioning to a vegan/vegetarian diet and I can chat to you about managing the menopause along with risks and myths....

The B vitamins and most importantly B12 recipe included  Friends of vegans always ask ‘where do you get your protein from?' But it is B12 that is a bigger concern. We probably would have died from cholera though… not always better back then. Now though, B12 is only sourced from fortified breakfast cereals, bread, plant-based milk, and fortified foods such as Nutritional Yeast or Nooch as it’s mostly referred to. Otherwise, it is necessary to take a supplement. So, if you eat /drink enough on the fortified side you should not need to worry. It is found in Marmite too ..love it or hate it, it is great as a stock for risottos and casseroles and the low sodium version tas...

Welcome to The Herbivore Health Hut

Hi, Thank you for popping by, are you wanting to have a healthier lifestyle, thinking of a plant-based diet but don't know how to dip your toe in? Do you have conditions that make you think it is too hard or too dangerous?  Well, I am here to help. I am a qualified Chef and now work as a registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner with a Diploma in Nutrition and I have been Vegan for 8 years. I am often asked for recipes that are straightforward, that the whole family can eat but doesn't have lots of ingredients, weird ingredients, or take hours to prepare, and then of course I get asked....where do you get your protein from? That old nugget. Well between me and you everyone eats too much protein but I will go into that another day.  For now, ask me your questions, talk to me about your concerns and we can look at developing a course for you. Everyone is different and therefore every plan will be individual to you. Keep in touch and remember to pop in regularly
